Are you ready for the zombie apocalypse?

We all know that in order to escape the zombies, you don’t need to be the fastest person… You just need to be faster than someone else.

You’ve dug the basement, you’ve stocked the pantry, you’ve organised some sort of weapon, and you’ve done the cardio… but have you been having the occasional massage? If you’re trying to stay in top shape, you should give your own body as much attention as you do everything else. After all, you don’t want to cramp up just as the shamblers are closing in, do you?

So…  Survive the zombies. Have a massage.   🙂

Massage has many priceless health benefits…

…and here’s a link with some interesting research.

I know I need to post more but I’m just on my way to look after a few beautiful people today and I didn’t want to forget!

Have you ever been recommended massage by a medical professional?

I get quite a few referrals, and I’m so happy that many medical professionals are starting to understand the importance of prevention and self care as an essential part of one’s continued path to health.

Sports massage… before or after the event?

Should you come and have a sports massage before your big event, or afterwards? The best answer is: both!

There are different types of sports massage.

Before the event, you ideally want a general massage to increase hydration and flow and stretch muscles and fascia out. This won’t be a very deep treatment (depending on how your body responds, of course) and it will focus more on the body as a whole, integrating all the different body parts back into a single well oiled (haha) machine.

Yeah... that's my bicep.

Yeah… that’s my bicep.

After the event it’s fine to have a deeper massage or some trigger point therapy to address any issues which may have arisen during the sports event, or even some long term ones. This can be focused on certain areas of the body more than others, or it can be a full body workout if you don’t have specific problem areas.

If you come in for a general massage and you have a sports event coming up, please remember to let me know! I can tailor the treatment to increase performance and elasticity.

On Looking Out For Number One (or, the importance of self care).

You may have seen the post all over Facebook recently…

“You cannot pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.”

Have you stopped to actually take that in? Or have you gone on thinking “it’s all well and good, but there are children to feed and clothes to wash and dishes to clean and counters to wipe and jobs to do and and and”

If that’s where you are… take a moment to stop. Breathe.

You can only do so much before you run out of energy – and if you never recharge your “batteries”, but keep taking from your reserves, how long do you think you can keep going?

How long will it take you to replenish those reserves? Will it have been worth it?

I can post pretty pastel quotes all night, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t stop for a moment and take it in. Right now. Look inward, and do a quick self check.

Have you slept enough lately? Have you done something just for yourself in the last week? Have you been eating nourishing, nurturing yummy things of more than two colours?

Your mileage may vary… and we all know deep down what we need to do to look after ourselves. We just need to stop making excuses. Most of all, we need to throw away the belief that we somehow need to run ourselves into the ground to satisfy everyone else’s expectations.

Breathe deep. Be selfish for a minute. Eat the biggest slice of cake. Make yourself a cup of tea, and sit down and drink it while it’s still warm. You owe it to nobody but yourself.

A little tiny bit of selfishness can go a long way towards your sanity… and the people you care about will thank you for it. 🙂
