About Em.

This author has not yet filled in any details.
So far Em. has created 15 blog entries.

I am bad at this blogging thing, BUT…

…but there’s a fair bit happening on our Facebook page!

Did you know we have a new amazing therapist? (Her name is Sabine and she is GREAT.)

Did you know we’re now open more days (because of the new amazing therapist)?

Did you know we have a few different retail things, and we are the only stockists for Shakti Mats in Tassie?

Come and say hi over here!

What can I say – it’s quicker, more interactive and I don’t have to teach myself how to write a post every time. 😉

I’ve been musing a lot…

…but I haven’t had as much time as I would like to write posts about my musings.

Life in our little clinic has been very busy, July is pretty much booked, August is at 65% capacity and September is about a quarter gone. I do sometimes have some cancellations, so don’t let the numbers stop you and message me if you need a massage – spots have been known to crop up when someone needed them most!

I’ve recently been chosen to become a retailer for the amazing Shakti mats. They have been so popular, I’ve just put in my third order in two weeks.

I am also now stocking the stunning, healing Olive & Ash and I am looking forward to playing with them some more. If you have any skin complaints, that’s your best friend right there.

I still have some Magnesium Oil products on the shelf, but I am considering moving to a “byo container” bulk system – stay tuned for that one! I am forever tweaking and adjusting things according to what you guys want, so if you don’t end up buying stuff I won’t be keeping it. On the other hand I’m happy to consider some options upon request, provided they fit in with the feel of the place!

Finally – I post a lot of stuff on Facebook. I know, I know – but they just make it SO easy and I don’t have to spend 45 minutes trying to work out how to attach an image! I am no web developer 😉 So keep an eye out there for updates and whatnots. (There’s a fair bit of whatnot happening on facebook.)

Happy New Financial Year everybody, and stay warm! <3 -Em 🌞

An infrared sauna in Burnie, you say?

You’re mad. It’ll never take. Nobody will come. bla bla bla. You know what… I got one anyway. If I love it so much, SURELY I can find more people who love it at least a little!

It’s brand spanking new, it works wonders on achey joints and muscles, and I for one am ecstatic I was able to procure one!

Come check it out!! (By appointment – you know I don’t like interrupting a treatment. Poor clients deserve better.) =)

As always, more details on the Em for Massage facebook page.

Come say g’day!!

We have moved!

Hey guys.

Those of you who hang out with me on Facebook may remember my excitement back in march / april when I went to Byron Bay to do a Thai Yoga Massage course. I returned with a lot of enthusiasm, and started looking for a new space with an extra room so I could set up my floor mat and offer Traditional Thai Massage.

Well! I’m excited to tell you all that I’ve finally found a new space in Burnie that lets me do just that. So, today I have recruited friends and family and moved into my new premises. If I weren’t so tired, there’d be a lot more exclamation marks in this post.

So – I will now be at 15 Wilmot Street! The place has SIX ROOMS! One of them is big enough for group activities, so I’m looking at exciting things like meditation classes. Appropriate suggestions on things you might like to do in this space are most welcome 🙂

The closest parking options are the cinema multistorey and the beachfront. And yes, I still have stairs. So many stairs. Gosh, the stairs.

I can’t feel mah legs! (Also I’m pretty sure I’m already asleep.)

Come say hi soon! Yay! 😀

And so much more is happening here!

Very much a work in progress… but a good start.

A post about posture? …really? Get out.

posture

Is it really THAT simple?

Everybody knows that the perfect posture is when you sit up straight, and once you achieve that goal everything else will fall into place. You will no longer have aches and pains, you will win lotto, and peace will return to the Middle East.

Or will it? Why is posture so important anyway?

Well… it all starts when we’re little, and mum says “SIT UP STRAIGHT!” so we do. For about 4 minutes, then we get engrossed in what we’re doing and slouch again. And that’s perfectly normal! It’s the only way we’re going to get anything done. Yes, you could achieve the absolute perfect posture if you tried… but then what? You couldn’t move or do anything else because the moment you move, your “perfect” posture is gone.
It’s a place we can visit, but we can’t LIVE there.
And if you think about it – do you really want a straight spine? It has curves for a reason!

The natural curves in our back act as a spring that counteracts the effects of gravity on our body. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to walk or move or do much – we’d lack flexibility! A straight, rigid spine isn’t efficient at transferring force. We have a spring in our step because of our spinal curvatures – not just because of the new boyfriend!

But Em, you don’t get it. I have the WORST. POSTURE. EVER.” Well, I don’t know about that. Your body has clearly gotten to where it is because so far it’s been the most efficient way of doing things. If you’re going to spent 8 hours a day bent over something, your back will adapt to this and become super good at making you bent over – after all, you’ve been telling it that this is what you want to do every day! It’s only trying to do what it can with the information it has. Want to improve your posture? You’re going to need to change what you do a little bit. Try different seats. Stand more. Walk more. Burn the office down! You can do this! I believe in you! …BUT I DIGRESS

All I’m saying is… Yes, I can help you improve your posture. But it’s going to take some work from your part. It’s not *hard* work, but repetition is the key – after all, that’s how you got to where you are. We all know that doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome isn’t particularly rational (unless you work in IT, then it’s anybody’s guess how things work. I personally believe there’s a gremlin rolling a dice in there. But once again I digress.)

So, let’s work on this together. I’ll make it fun, I promise!

COMING SOON TO BURNIE – THAI YOGA MASSAGE THERAPY!

So for those of you who don’t do the Facebook thing – I’ve just spent three amazing weeks in Byron Bay learning Thai Yoga Massage. What an experience!

I had my first Thai Massage at Baan Thai in Hobart, about six years ago, and I’ve been wanting to learn it ever since. It’s just so different. It’s a non-diagnostic bodywork that starts at the feet and goes through the whole body, balancing all the body systems in such an intelligent way. There must be reasons it’s been around for centuries!

How is it different though? Well, first of all, Thai Massage is done on a mat on the floor. The client is fully clothed, wearing something loose and comfortable to allow for plenty of movement.

What does it look like? Well – in short, it’s like having Yoga done to you. There are stretches, joint mobilisation, and all the pressure comes from rocking and shifting the practitioner’s body weight.

What does it FEEL like? Ha! You’re just going to have to come and try it out! I am SO excited to offer this in Burnie!

I will make it available soon. Keep checking the “services and prices” page to find out when – looking like May 2017! 🙂

Yes, it's me!

A sample pose.
